The side canyons are at their best in the first hour of light, when the walls glow and the air is still cool. Your naturalist reads the ground as you go: ibex and fox tracks in the sand, desert plants and the rock art left by travellers thousands of years ago.

Good to know

  • Easy to moderate walking, about six kilometres on sand and rock.

  • Bring a hat and closed shoes. Water and dates are carried for you.

  • Back at the oasis in time for breakfast.
