All year

Hegra was the Nabataeans' southern city, a sister to Petra, and more than a hundred of its tombs are carved into the sandstone. Walking them with someone who works on the excavations turns the facades into people: the families who built them, the masons who signed them and the traders who passed through.

Good to know

  • Forty minutes by car each way, in an air-conditioned four-by-four.

  • Includes site entry and Arabic coffee with dates in the desert.

  • Wear comfortable shoes; there is some walking on uneven ground.
